What is Haunkkah ?
Chanukah, which is also spelled Hanukkah, is an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the Maccabees' historic triumph over the Seleucidian Greek occupiers in 139 BCE.
The Holy Temple in Jerusalem had been turned into a center of idol worship, so when they recaptured it, they went in quest of clean oil to light the Temple menorah.
They discovered barely enough oil to last for a day, but amazingly, it burned for eight days before more could be brought.
How is Haunkkah celebrated ?
Jewish people light unique menorahs, or candelabras, on each of the eight nights of Chanukah.

Each night, a new flame is added, until on the eighth night, eight flames are brilliantly glowing.
Short blessings are said before lighting, which happens at home, in a doorway, or next to a window.
Playing with dreidels, which have four Hebrew characters inscribed on them—nun, gimmel, hay, and shin—is a custom on Chanukah.
These days, communal menorah lightings take place in public spaces to spread the message of Chanukah—that light triumphs over darkness and that worshiping God is free.
