With the approval of this citizen-sponsored laws, Ohio would join a growing list of states that have included the right to an abortion in their constitutions. By changing the Constitution, a "yes" vote would grant people the "right to make and carry out one's own reproductive decisions," which would include the ability to have an abortion.
If the amendment is approved, the state government may still forbid operations beyond the approximate 23-week mark at which a fetus can survive outside the uterus, provided the patient's "treating physician" determines that doing so is essential to preserve the patient's life or health.
